At Class we are committed to protecting your privacy. This notice explains how we handle your personal data when you apply to work for Class Recruitment.
It applies when we act as a controller of your personal data โ that is, where we decide how and why it is processed.
If you are a candidate looking for work through Class in a nursery or early-years setting, this is not the right notice. Please see our Privacy Notice for Job Candidates & Registrants.
The personal data we collect
Depending on your application, we may collect:
- your name and contact details;
- your CV, work history, qualifications, skills and experience;
- information you provide in your application, covering letter, interview or other recruitment communications;
- information provided by referees or previous employers;
- information relating to your availability and suitability for the role;
- information needed to verify your identity and, where applicable, your right to work in the UK;
- information relating to any reasonable adjustments you may require during the recruitment process;
- where relevant to the role, information required for pre-employment or safeguarding checks; and
- any other information that you choose to provide or that is reasonably necessary for us to assess your suitability for the role.
We aim to collect and use only the personal data that is relevant and necessary for the recruitment process.
How we obtain your personal data
We normally collect your personal data directly from you when you apply for a position with Class, provide your CV or application information, attend an interview or communicate with us about a vacancy.
We may also receive personal data about you from other sources where this is necessary for the recruitment process. This may include:
- referees and previous employers;
- recruitment advisers or agencies acting on your behalf or on behalf of Class;
- qualification, training or professional registration providers;
- organisations involved in right-to-work or identity verification; and
- other sources where permitted or required by law.
Where we obtain your personal data from another source, we will provide you with the privacy information required by applicable data protection law.
How we use your data, and our lawful basis
We use your personal data to manage your application, assess your suitability for the role, communicate with you during the recruitment process and make recruitment decisions.
Where you apply for a position with Class, we may rely on processing being necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.
We may also rely on our legitimate interests in recruiting suitable people to work for Class, managing our recruitment process and ensuring that we have the information necessary to make informed recruitment decisions.
Where we are required to carry out particular checks or process information to comply with a legal obligation, we will rely on the applicable legal obligation as our lawful basis.
Where you provide information relating to reasonable adjustments or other special-category personal data, we will only process it where we have an applicable Article 9 condition under the UK GDPR and, where required, an applicable condition under the Data Protection Act 2018.
Where the role requires criminal-record or other safeguarding checks, we will only process such information where we have an applicable lawful basis and the required legal authority or condition under the Data Protection Act 2018.
Where we rely on legitimate interests as our lawful basis, we carry out a balancing test to make sure our interests do not override your rights and freedoms. You can ask us for more information about this assessment by contacting info@classrecruit.com.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing or other independent purposes.
Where necessary, we share personal data with trusted service providers who process it on our behalf and under our instructions.
These may include recruitment advisers, recruitment platforms, applicant-management systems, email and communications providers, website or IT service providers and other suppliers that help us manage our recruitment process.
We may also share relevant information with referees, previous employers or other organisations where this is necessary to verify information you have provided or to carry out appropriate pre-employment checks.
We only share the personal data that is relevant and necessary for the particular purpose.
We may also share information where we are required or permitted to do so by law
International transfers
We do not routinely transfer personal data outside the UK.
Where a service provider processes personal data outside the UK, we will ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with applicable data protection law and will provide further information where required.
How long we keep your data
We keep personal data relating to your application for an appropriate period after the recruitment process has been completed.
The length of time we retain your information depends on the type of information, the purpose for which it was collected, the outcome of the recruitment process and any legal, regulatory or contractual requirements that apply.
Information obtained specifically for pre-employment or vetting purposes will not be retained for longer than necessary. Where appropriate, we may retain a record of the outcome of a check or our recruitment decision rather than retaining the underlying information.
We regularly review the personal data we hold and delete or securely dispose of information when it is no longer required.
Our internal data retention procedures set out the applicable retention periods and criteria for different categories of recruitment information.

You have the following rights in relation to the personal data we hold about you:
- to be provided with a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- to ask us to correct any personal data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- to ask us to erase your personal data, or to restrict how we use it, in certain circumstances;
